Light Changes our world

Lighting is our passion.
We use light and darkness to create the best possible atmosphere in our environments, creating a visual narrative that reinforces and communicates the idiosyncrasy of the space.

We firmly believe in the transformation capacity of light.
Lighting Design brings more economic advantages and influences very actively our quality of life.

LIGHT

We know that light is a very difficult medium to communicate and understand.

We can’t see it, but it makes matter visible.

We can’t draw it, but we know that it has the power to define shape, space, and make a material come to life.

We can come to understand their physical properties, but above them, we must highlight their unique ability to influence how they make us feel.

LIGHTING DESIGN SINCE 1998

Rafael Gallego, Principal of AUREOLIGHTING
From 1998 he worked independently as a lighting designer, and in 2004 Rafael founded Indigo Design, the first and only Independent lighting design studio in Madrid until its closure in 2007.
He continued his professional career as an independent lighting designer directing his current studio, AUREOLIGHTING.

He regularly participates in conferences, forums and lectures on lighting design around the world.
He is a member of CEI (Spanish Committee of Lighting), IALD-EU Steering Committee (International Association of Lighting Designers – Europe section) and and a founding member of the APDI (Spanish Association of Professional Lighting Designers) where he was President between 2015 an 2019.

ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING DESIGN

Composed by a multidisciplinary team of  architects, interior designers, engineers … specialised in Lighting Design.
We join the Design team together with clients, architects, interior designers and other professionals to design and control the light. Our process combines creativity with pragmatism, ensuring that our solutions are sustainable and easy to implement. We create high added-value solutions for indoor and outdoor spaces, both permanent and ephemeral.

The documents we produce consist of presentations, layouts, calculations, Lighting Equipment Specification… adapted to the needs of each project.

Our involvement can cover the following services and if necessary, include additional ones:

Phase I

INCEPTION AND FEASIBILITY

Includes attendance to the initial meetings with the Client and the Design Team, in order to obtain the necessary information and gather the data to produce the briefing.

Phase II

Concept Design

Involves the production and presentation of a lighting proposal for the project based on the briefing agreed in phase I that communicates the global intention of the design.

Phase III

Schematic Design

We develop the design criteria described in the concept phase. At this time we propose the selection of luminaries and the product to be used through lighting typologies. The schematic details of the integration of luminaries in the architecture are carried out in this phase.

Phase IV

Design Development

The schematic design documentation is refined at this time. We advise electrical consultants on different aspects of lighting and deliver the Design Development documentation package for them to develop electrical circuits.

Phase V

Construction Documents
At this point, we review / update the CAD drawings and details for inclusion in the final tender package. The objective is to ensure that the project can be carried out in accordance with the quality and comfort specifications previously agreed upon in the conceptual design phase.

Phase VI

Construction
It consists of explaining to the installation companies the intended effects of the lighting design and the correct location of the luminaries. Verify the installation and solve the work problems that may arise during the execution.

Phase VII

Focusing and Programming Direction
Involves making the final adjustments of the lighting effects, the focusing of luminaries and finishing off any missing details. We also direct the programming team that will set the light levels and/or the different light scenes, either static or dynamic.
